CIPER researchers Afonso Fitas and Gonçalo V. Mendonça, together with collaborators, co-authored an article on the effects of velocity-based hypertrophy training on pectoralis major morphology, neuromuscular activation, and maximal bench press strength, published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology.
The study compared velocity-based and percentage-based hypertrophy training, examining changes in muscle morphology, neuromuscular activation, and maximal bench press strength.
Both approaches produced similar increases in pectoralis major size and maximal strength, while velocity-based training did not provide an additional advantage for the outcomes assessed.
The findings contribute to understanding how velocity can be used to prescribe resistance training and how different loading approaches influence adaptation.
