SPERT LAB’s mission is to foster interdisciplinary research in sports (merging together biology, psychology, neurosciences and pedagogy), to understand sport performance and its contextualized development, namely through training.
The study of expertise is essential to understand why people improve their performance at different rates, or why some people achieve high levels of success whereas others do not. This knowledge is important for the development of practice designs, so as to organize appropriate interventions, methodologies and strategies for expertise development according to the characteristics of the individual and the sport.
Expert performance results from the interaction between individual and environment. Thus, when we consider the study of expertise, we consider the social-, cultural-, bio-, psychological- and motor background as well as the potential and limitations of brain plasticity. SPERT LAB joins different forces by tackling the theme of “expertise” by means of an ecological dynamics approach to brain and behavior.
